Farm-City Week

farmcityThe South Carolina Agricultural Council sponsors the observance of Farm-City Week in South Carolina. The national event, which promotes a better understanding between agricultural and urban communities, is observed the Friday before Thanksgiving through the following Thursday.

Each year the SCAC sponsors awards to recognize farm-city week activities. Counties are asked to submit applications and scrapbooks detailing their activities. A three person panel evaluates the submissions and selects winners in three categories: Best Youth Event, Best Individual Event, and Best Overall County.

In addition the National Farm City Council recognizes two outstanding nominees from the state with a national certificate. The Ag Council recognizes additional participates for their notable accomplishments with state certificates.

Farm-City award recipients are recognized for:

  • Program activities that support the mission of Farm-City
  • Program leadership that tells the story of agriculture to the urban public
  • Active communications in telling the story of rural-urban interdependence in our food and fiber system
  • Program efforts that bring rural and urban people closer together and foster a greater understanding among them.
